A new beginning

We began first grade today with a lot of enthusiasm and emotion . . . my Doodle has got his mother's perfectionism and his father's temper. It was a rocky start at first, but we managed to swing into his lessons for today: a little art appreciation, some numerals, phonics review and his first spelling list. He remembers his catechism, which put a smile on his face.

Coming from Kindergarten, we've got a few more subjects to cover this year, and it's gotten harder. We've also got the girls to work with, and I'm learning in the trenches how to manage teaching first grade while encouraging a preschooler and corralling an almost-two-year-old. It's a bustling, busy, loud school area, and Doodle is not well pleased. We will work until we find the best way for everyone to do what needs to be done.

Lord our God, in your wisdom and love you surround us with the mysteries of the universe. In times long past you sent us your prophets to teach your laws and to bear witness to your undying love. You sent us your Son to teach us by word and example that true wisdom comes from you alone.

Send your Spirit upon our students and their teachers and fill them with your wisdom and blessings. Grant that during this academic year they may devote themselves to their studies and share what they have learned from others.

Grant this through Christ our Lord.
