Feast of the Archangels, 2010

Here's a feast day that appeals to all kids.  Beings whom God created to help us in many ways--ones whose existence has crossed with ours many times in history to our benefit--I love St. Michael, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael, too.  They're just another reminder of the depth of our heavenly Father's kindness, concern and love.

There are some great resources and coloring pages for celebrating this feast, though I have to admit that with the birthday yesterday, I didn't make a lot of time for planning.  It's been a good day--hopefully memorable.

In honor of our spiritual helpers, we made little angels to dangle from the dining room light fly.  Little construction paper shapes, some glue, and the coveted glitter.  Mama rarely brings out the glitter, so that in itself makes today special.  It was a perfect opportunity to review colors, shapes, and sizes, too.

We looked through some books:

And then I pulled out my angel cookie stamp.  I wish I had three, so I could make one for each archangel --there are so many cute cookie stamps here.  When I first ordered cookie stamps, there were hardly any recipes.  Now there are dozens available on that site, which inspired me to make three different flavors:  chocolate, ginger spice and honey.  Three hand-mixed cookie doughs=upper body workout complete!

Can you tell they're trumpeting angels?  They look better in person, and they taste and smell like heaven.    Maybe next year we'll do a devil's food cake dragon, but for this year, we focused on the gentler side of our archangel kinfolk.

St. Michael, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael:  pray for us!
