All Saints' Day, 2010

What a great feast today is!  What a great day to celebrate!  Friends in heaven who care in their essences for other souls; friends who willingly gave their lives in service or in sacrifice to help strengthen us and to bring us closer to our Heavenly Father--yes, these souls deserve our thanks and our celebration.

If there's ever the subtle temptation of being alone or abandoned in this world, I can hardly draw another breath without remembering all these friends--multitudes, John tells us--who are waiting to bring my sorrows and sufferings before the throne of God.  All holy men and women:  pray for us!

We didn't have any party planned for today or any parade of saints.  I'm sure in the years to come we may.  Today we went to Mass early before little people were tired and grumpy, and then we talked about the many friends in heaven that we know and admire--the ones we feel close to.  We talked about the many others whose names we don't know, but who care for us just as much as our favorites.

Later, we colored paper-doll saints for a display on our mantel.  Nicely, I should say, too.  No rainbow-colored saints!  Tonight Foo-foo will lead us in the litany--a good, long one--and we'll feast on unlimited Hallows Eve treats (it seemed excessive to make more goodies).

For me:  I've been blessed with a sense of the closeness of our universal Church.  Souls in heaven and on earth--all with the same goal.  I thank God for so many gracious helps!
