5 days later

Even working very carefully with yarn that splits like overprocessed hair, I knocked New Baby's baptismal romper out in five very short days.  I'm a little in shock over the whole business (and a tiny bit sad that it's done already).

I love it.  The yarn, a bamboo-cotton blend, is perfect for a summer baptism.  I heavily modified a Drops pattern using an ingenious lace stitch, and it's perfect in my mind.  I wanted something a little detailed without being too ornate, maybe a little cable or some few eyelets.  But we're talking about a June boy, so it couldn't be too viney/flowery or thick and heavy.

The lace, called Falling Water (very baptismal, I think), has the appearance of cabling based on the placement of decreases in opposition to eyelets.  There are eyelets sprinkled here and there--enough to let in a little breeze for him!  I would put in a close-up shot, but my camera's flash washes out all the details.

On to the next thing.  I'm beginning to suspect that picking up continental knitting was the best skill I've ever learned.  FOs are flying off the needles all the time these days.
