1. It doesn't matter how far I go or how long I stay away: he's always there waiting for me with tender love and mercy.
2. He gives really fantastic gifts, to me (my husband, my children, my friends . . .) and to all of humanity (the Church, the Sacraments . . . )
3. He knew before any of us did how much we need him and his constant help and presence: he has left us constant ways to come very close to him and to receive all that we need, and all we have to do is ask/seek--go to the Sacraments!
4. He leaves a little bit for me to do, but not much (so merciful and compassionate he is!). There is the work he wills me to do and a much more arduous struggle with selfishness and pride, but mostly he asks for a tiny bit of obedience and humility. One small turn of my will and he's there to make up the rest in whatever I'm doing.
5. In my weakest hours, whether from sinfulness or fear, he has raised me up and carried every bit of my struggles for me. He has never left me alone and never allowed me to utterly ruin the beautiful gift of life that he has given.
How about you? Why is he your first and best love?
