I had forgotten how much I like sewing. I'm not very good at it, mind you--you might find a straight line for a few inches and then it veers off a little . . . I'm okay with that, because I know that with practice, it'll get better. For now, it's fine. I'm not sewing anyone's wedding gown, after all.
The nice thing about sewing is that there are discrete tasks. This appeals to me immensely, because I can list those tasks and tic them off one by one. I can eyeball that list and see just how much time each task will take. Ten minutes to apply tape to a seam. Two minutes to press on the appliques. I can determine whether I can squeeze in a little fabric finishing as the laundry is spinning. That's efficiency.
It's different from knitting, where a lot of the tasks' time-taking will vary. Is my gauge off because I'm irritable? Have I forgotten which pattern row I'm on so that I have to pull out 2 inches (again)? Am I cranky with this yarn? It's a looser craft for me, I think, so it's been very nice to mix in the sewing with the knitting.
Maybe I should look for projects that require a little of both. For now it just feels like I'm stretching my domestic muscles and letting a little creativity out. Me? Creative? Maybe a little after all!
