My friend had her baby. As I suspected, she was having a boy (Mark Gerard--isn't that wonderful?!), and he's a ten-pounder. The sweater I had begun for him will not do. A number of reasons: the yarn I had was not knitting up very soft. I made 2-3 mistakes in the pattern, too. I do love it (it's a Loop Pattern that I found in my Harmony Knit & Purl), but I was having trouble keeping track of where I was.
So I've got this superwash in a teal blue hanging around, and I think it will work. I just wish it were thicker, because I really wanted a substantial sweater for him for the New England fall and winter. It's DK and I put it on 2s for a dense knit, but it's not that thick.
I've got birthday presents on my sewing table, too. I found pink and violet shiny fabric (charmeuse, I think) on sale--just the kind of stuff you don't want to sew with it's so slippery. But that's almost done. I just have to add little emblems to each side. I'm using these rhinestone iron-on things, and I'm hoping I can do it . . . I'm trying to decide if I should iron them onto felt patches and then sew them on, or if I should just iron them on!
The loft-bed playhouse is coming along, too. I've cut it out, serged most of the raw edges, and now am contemplating the door and window edges. I'm thinking that instead of serging--because those interior corners are gonna be hard! --I might just use binding tape. But that's a lot of binding! I'd also like to add a few embellishments, like a little flower garden. I'm not so creative, but I was thinking that with a little felt and these iron-on flowers I found, it shouldn't be too hard. If only I could paint some . . .
