Another important solemnity is coming up on Sunday: the feast of the Blessed Trinity. I'm learning that with all of these feast days, I'm given more than just opportunities to make (and eat!) cake: each one gives us time to pause and dwell for a while on one of the many beautiful teachings of the Church. It only makes sense that we set days apart to study, pray and reflect on the Truths that our Lord has given to us through the Church.
For this feast, we'll gather all the help we can get to approach the mystery of the Divine Nature.
Appropriate symbols for coloring, decorating and explaining: entwined circles, trefoil, triangle, clover and fleur de lis. One neat idea was to burn a pillar candle with three wicks to symbolize the three distinct Persons in One God.
Prayers: this beautiful Angelic Trisagion from the Order of the Blessed Trinity, and this Litany to the Blessed Trinity
Writings of Fathers: Athanasian Creed (A marvelous, powerful assertion of the Faith), and for the older child, some of Saint Augustine's contemplations in On the Trinity
Glory Be to the Father
and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end.
