How I survive the last trimester

It involves lots of lists, projects and busywork.  Not that I don't have plenty to choose from:  nooks and crannies to clean (because let's face it:  once Mr. Baby comes, there won't be any special cleaning going on for a while!), decluttering, organizing, maintaining . . .

We don't do nursery work because we like our babies with us.  As far as preparing his sleeping/care area, it's a matter of getting out the changing pad, freshening the dipes in the sun and making sure I have enough Eucalan.  The bedrail has been firmly in place since . . . 2004, I think.

I have the usual change of the season chores (windows, oven, behind the fridge and stove).  There may be some other projects in the house, but off the top of my head, I can't think of them.  Most of the work I want to do is outside.  In the sun.  In the dirt.  Gardening!  Yea!

In the next few weeks, I need to clean out my beds, apply some compost and fertilizer, and make the soil workable.  I had to scale back my plans (thank you, IRS, for your 6 month penalty imposed for filing "too early), but it may be for the better.  I'm not getting any smaller or more graceful these days!

I have two big projects:  one is putting in a raspberry bed in my side yard.  The other is enlarging the bed in my front yard.  Beatle wants a little patch, and making the front bed bigger will afford her some space.  I do still have to plan for the raised vegetable beds, but I think it will be pretty simple this year:  tomatoes, root vegetables, peppers, herbs and cukes.  Some pumpkins from seed, too?  Just for fun, I think.

But I forgot the last little project.  I was hoping for strawberries this year, but we'll have to wait.  Until then, look what I found for my deck:

Our little yard doesn't have room for full-sized bushes, but we can definitely work with a couple of these dwarf plants.  A little netting . . . a fun prospect.

The nice thing about projects and plans is that they keep me busy thinking about them, doing them, and then enjoying them.  These are all good ways to pass the time while the baby gets his finishing touches.  I'm so eager to see him, hold him, and get to know him that there have to be good things keeping my mind off the 12 weeks stretched out in front of me.  Thank God for spring, gardens and work to be done.
